Portrait: Barbara Matteo

Barbara Matteo Serbent

My visual art education was secured in 1975-81 with BA and MA degrees from The George Washington University in painting, art history and museum education; teaching certification from George Mason University; embellished by a few awards of distinction; sharpened by four years as gallery director at the Emerson Gallery in McLean, Virginia and as Director of Education and Exhibit Programming at GRACE in Reston, Virginia; taught to others as an instructor of art to all age groups; and matured as a museum educator who worked with nearly 300 traveling and home-based exhibitions as the Associate Curator of Education at the Corcoran Gallery of Art from 1981-2000. The past twenty years have been devoted to drawing, painting, and experimenal art methods in both Castleton, Virginia and Monterey, California studios.
