Mesa Verde, Colorado

Mesa Verde National Park, Colorado

Most currently discovered, in 1868, by two ranchers searching for stray cattle, the spectacular community built by 11th century Anasazi (Ancient Ones) has now been abandoned for 700 years. Named by Spanish explorers for the green tree cover and flat ridges, the site is one of the most important archeological areas in the world.
