The
Mayan people, living in Mexico and areas of Central America, created this
heavy clay mask to represent mountain spirits as well as to double as
a death mask. Peaceful and Zen-like, the mask's expression projects the
spirit of the deceased to a place beyond earthly concerns. The stunning
Turquoise-browed Monmot nestles himself among the lovely native flora
of this currently besieged Central American country. |
