Near Amana Colonies, Iowa Iowa
grows more than a billion bushels of corn each year as the leading corn-
producing state. Much is used to feed the 20 million hogs raised here
annually. These gold, green and brown cropbands created by the farmer's
powerful plows, disks, drills and combines resemble painter Grant Wood's
American work of his home state. Nearby Amana colonies, established 150
years ago by religious refugees, are still operating successfully. |
