Kodachrome Basin , Utah There
are 2,241 vividly-colored acres in this remote desert park. Named by National
Geographic Society visitors, its photogenic character centers on the 67
spires known as Hoodoos. The tallest is 156 feet and all were formed when
calcite and feldspar filled extinct geyser throats then remained after
the softer surrounding sandstone eroded away leaving the piquant, aptly
named chimneys. |
