Seneca Rocks, West Virginia

Seneca Rocks National Recreation Area, West Virginia

A sheer spine of Tuscarora sandstone juts 900 feet above the North Fork Valley. It lays claim to be one of the best vertical climbs in the east. There is history here: the 10th Mountain Division trained their men here and an old legend rewarded the best climber of the Tuscarora and Seneca warriors with the hand of the Seneca chief's beautiful daughter, Snow Bird.
