YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO
COCCYZUS AMERICANUS — YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO

Rurally known as a “Rain Crow” this quiet, shy bird sometimes lays her eggs in the nests of the Black-Billed Cuckoo and occasionally in the nests of other birds. She is long…up to thirteen inches, and often sits motionless on an interior branch while looking around. She loves a hairy caterpillar fed to her by her mate when he lands on her shoulder and places the food in her bill. Their children incubate in an eggshell for nine to eleven days then climb around on the tree getting themselves prepared for flight.
