Near Santa Fe, New Mexico

A narrow band of thin forest follows the Santa Fe River as it flows far below the cliffs of Black Canyon in the high desert terrain near Santa Fe. The city, oldest seat of government in the United States, was a magnet for people of distinct cultures, the Pueblo villages, Spanish colonials and the Anglo-Americans who encountered the city when they moved along the Santa Fe Trail.
